Harriet Beecher Stowe
Born on 14th June in 1811, Harriet Beecher Stowe, seen in a portrait, was famously greeted by Abraham Lincoln with the words, ‘So you’re the little woman who made the book that made this great war’–hardly an exaggeration considering the impact her seminal ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ had upon the nation. Published in 1852 and dramatized extensively thereafter, the abolitionist novel did much to rally popular support for Lincoln’s cause.
I only mention this because that’s my birthday too, just in case you want to send me a big expensive present
